What is a Strong Woman?

Updated: Jan 31, 2020

"Here's to strong women. May be know them, may we be them, may we raise them."

What is a strong woman? We come in all different shapes, sizes, and attitudes. I think a strong woman is one that elevates others. A strong woman is one that does not compete against her fellow female, instead lifts her up. A strong woman knows her worth lies in the depth of her character, instead of the shape of her body. A strong woman values her ability to lead through her example of service.

My mother taught me this. Her mission in life is to help her family thrive. She always says, "never have regrets", and "eliminate the word should", and "never care about what people think of you." This is my mother "Gaga" passing down her secret Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe...while secretly pouring in her strength to my daughter, Emily. This is how you be a strong woman and raise one.

I've been called a "strong woman" like it's a negative thing. I've been asked "why I lift heavy" because my muscles might get too big. My mother's wisdom has helped me ignore all of that criticism. God has commanded me to be "strong and courageous" (Joshua 1:9), I'm just being obedient.

Her most important lesson to me has been her steadfast commitment to prayer, reading the bible, and her relationship with God. You can't break a woman who gets her strength from God.
